Outside Art by Madeline Kloepper
$21.99 CAD
We've been lucky enough to watch Madeline's career launch from her early days at Emily Carr. I was delighted to get this book in the shop as it truly has a home here -
Animals watch as an artist works at home, and try to figure out what she's doing. The conversations the animals have about her strange behaviour is a direct nod to anyone who's gone through art school, as the animals argue about what art is like a bunch of 2nd Year Students trying out their critical language for the first time.
Kloepper wrote about the book that she was actually hugely inspired by Joseph Beuys' performance "How To Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare" in making this book. While there are no dead animals in this book, but Kloepper says she's interested inthe "simultaneous disconnection and connection of the people outside of the gallery bewteen the Artist and their Work, especially in regards to an outside perspective". This book is a true delight, and I'm thrilled to have it on our shelves.
