All those things that no longer fit by Marta Lonardi
$38.00 CAD
Sometimes there are ‘things’ that simply appear and do not go away. They don't go away anymore and in fact, they grow, they accumulate and you don't know where to put them. They don't fit in the biscuit jar, they don't fit in daddy's gym bag, they don't fit in grandma's shopping trolley, not on the bus and, at one point, not even in the river! The young protagonist carries around these ‘things’ that even he isn't sure he wants and that only increase, but... just when it seems that these little spheres, which are as yellow as the sun or as orange as ripe apricots, are about to overwhelm him, the unexpected happens.
He looks around carefully and sees ‘things’ of many other colours, sky blue, soft pink, meadow green, fuchsia and blue running around and mingling with his own. They are the ‘things’ that no longer fit even for the other children who play with him in the park and who, mixing ‘things’ and colours, create a joyful and bright confusion. Maybe these are dreams, maybe these are worries, maybe these are thoughts or desires, maybe these are fears or maybe these are secrets, or maybe these are the things we would like to learn and the things we already know.
In this delicate book, Marta Lonardi provides us with an almost dreamlike and somewhat rarefied background in which to reflect on ‘all those things that no longer fit’ in each of us. This universal dimension without any indication of awhat exactly these ‘things’ are makes it a book suitable for audiences of all ages.
